Things of Life – Still Life Today
The Theme:
We live in an unprecedented abundance, a luxury of things.
This is both a blessing and an overwhelming burden. For centuries, artists have paid homage to the world of objects through still lifes. They dedicate to them works of great sensuality—images of objects that people love, enjoy, and use to adorn themselves. Still lifes show us objects in their beauty, their desirability, their splendor—but also in their transience. And today, in an age when objects have taken over our world? Can objects still inspire, delight, and fascinate, or are they harbingers of doom? What do still lifes look like in today’s world? We invite artists to submit works on the theme of “still life” in the fields of painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture, and mixed media. Show us: What do you do with things, and what do things do to you?
We look forward to participating in the exhibition of the works nominated for the prize.
